Fragile technology

It's amazing how old technology lasts these days. I've been using my game boy color on holiday and I've got to say it's with stand some years of dropping it, exposure to heat and obviously the traditional wear and tear. The same company that developed the game boy color also created the 3DS, I'm obviously talking about Nintendo and recently I've found the build quality of newer devices have become more fragile.

Take the iPhone for example, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this but the first time I dropped my iphone, the bottom half of the screen became dead so I couldn't slide to unlock the phone in order to use it so this made the phone completely useless and I know what you're saying I could easily use a silicone case or a bumper case or any other case that you can think of. The company that developed these devices put a lot of hard word and money and experimenting to create that device feel conformatable in the hand and in my eyes me using the case just feels like the company should have never bothered putting the effort in if people want to destroy that look and feel that the company put in.

I've had no access to the internet and that's mainly the reason I've not been blogging for a week and you might be expecting streams and streams of blogs since I've been on holiday but virtually I've had nothing on my mind or surrounded by technology to give opinion on and with no access to the internet I've not been able to look at tech news sites and keep up with the latest news. When I get back, I will be going through the pages and pages just so I'm up to date on the tech world.

I've had lovely holiday and I've got a decent tan and it's amazing that it only cost 300 pounds for the three of us. When I get back, I should have a power supply for the Mac I got for my birthday, it was my birthday on the 22nd and for it, I got a Mac from my family and I actually couldn't believe that it was mine, I thought it was a troll present. I actually thought they were going to take it off me just a minute after they gave it me but no it's real. My mum's side of the family worked together to give me one of the greatest gifts they could give me to start me of on my making an app in the app store.

Going away on holiday

Hey, i'm just letting my audience know that i'm going on holiday for a week.
Me, my mum and dad have booked a holiday to corfu for dirt cheap. Two days ago it was 300 pound each and now that we've looked today it's £295 for all 3 of us so we've decided to book it last minute before somebody else grabs up the offer.

So this is just a notification that i'm not going to be doing any blogs until i get back and hopefully i'll have a lot of topics to cover. i'll try and keep myself up to date on the latest tech news and i'm sure i'll be writing blogs while i'm over there and since there's no internet i will be posting the blogs when i get back.

Back in weeks time :)

Roundup of tech news 20th

Remember ages ago when I talk about the raspberry pi and what's it's capable of well news has been recently revealed that the company that produce the raspberry pi Linux based computers are cramping up production to more over 4000 every day. With this news enlightened, they've decided to lift the restriction of 1 per customer and give it an unlimited checkout cart. They haven't altered the price at all, it's still at the super convenient £25.

iOS 6 beta 3 was released this week. As I don't get to experiment with iPhone beta first hand, I've got to rely on other tech bloggers to have the courtesy to post the findings and results of the changes in the beta. Well in beta 3 there isn't that many changes, only the 3GS was affected with getting shared picture streaming and VIP email, a feature that has been implemented into other higher end iPhones.

iOS with the addition of face time over 3G after 2 years after the initial release of face time. You'd think apple would have inter grated facetious,e with 3G sooner. Well if you're on AT&T and you toggle the use cellular data over 3G. A little prompt comes up telling you to contact AT&T phone service or click on the link that directs to a website where it says 'the service you are looking for is not yet available'. So what the outcome is you might end up paying for face time phone calls and that's on top of what you pay for your megabytes of data. So it looks like AT&T might be doing something sneaky and not letting users use facetime without putting a bolt on, on top of your contract.

Only a short paragraph, windows 8 is going to be released to the public on October 26th. My suggestion is that they are going straight against iOS with their public release of the iPhone 5 and iOS 6.

Enyo has finally come out of beta and was released to the public just a couple of days ago. As I've said this let's your device run android apps and iOS apps and it supports multi coding system enabling any programmer to code for this operating system. I haven't tested it out yet but I've downloaded it but there's no instructions of how to install it. This will do tremendous work to the people that are on webos and want to have the apps that everyone else is talking about.

One small bit of news has come up in the last few hours is that Google have bought the mail client service sparrow. This app is mainly based on apple devices and has been used to improve the user experience of the mail app. I don't know a lot about this app but Jeff from Idownloadblog has used it quiet a lot of have reviewed it several times on different platforms and he's normally the guy to go for jailbreak tweaks, themes and anything else found in the cydia store.

Thanks for reading. As you can see there's more going on this week and you can comment on what's talked about here or if you have a question in general.

Hard drives > solid state drives

To start off this blog, i'll say I don't know enough about hard drives to make it to my usual size of blog.

I was looking through advertisements the other day because I really want to buy a new laptop or a desktop PC, see my laptop is fast enough when performing web browsing, it's amazingly fast at that but when it comes to model creating in 3DS max, it lacks speed, sure I can create models and applys textures to it. Applying a normal map to the object requires more power from the PC. Normal mapping is a technique used to give objects the appearance of having more geometry and using more polygons without putting stress on the polygon count and the game engine.

I got side tracked again. Well the laptop I was looking at came pre-installed with a TB hard drive. It's basically telling us that you can download films and music without the need of worrying about hard drive space. You can download many things and you'll have plenty of space left for other things. I've got a 250gb and it would be pretty hard to fill with only my person documents.

The reaon i'm talking about hard drives is because with the introduction of solid state drives in the macs. We might be in the era of hard drives being replaced by solid state drives. Now I won't bore with you with the maths but for every gb on a hard drives costs 0.09p and for every gb in a solid state drives is 80p which really adds up over time. So you can obviously see the difference.
Don't trust me on these stats. I'm trying to remember what I saw the other day and as i'm walking to somewhere.

Thanks for reading.

iPhone 5

Honestly i've been putting off talking about the iPhone because at this moment in time it's just speculation. Basically nothing really can be confirmed at all, it's just cases for a supposebly iPhone 5 and then there's back covers that will replace the glass back we are fond of with the iPhone 4 and 4S.

If i'm going to do a tech blog, i've got to cover rumours as well, it's one of the nessessitys that drives tech news forward and it keeps us guessing of what it could be next. Sure there's cases that completely disagree wiht the previous cases that came out but it's fondamentualwhat drives it forward.

I'll just head into the basics, The iPhone 5 may or may not feature a mettacial back, It's hard to say about this rumour since tech bloggers and news sites have featured this picture over and over again rom discovered agnles, enviroments and to a video of someone hlding the case ffrom the factory in china. Apple might be bringing out protostypes and giving them to the workers so they can through people off track. This wasn't the case for the redesign of the iPhone 4 when gizmodo got his hands on an iPhone 4 months before it was released and it was said to be stolen from a coffee shop in cupertino.

I think the biggest rumors that the iPhone 5 has is the screen size. every generation of iPhone and Ipod touch has had a 3.5inch screen. Look at other phones such as the galaxy note, galaxy s3 and HTC one x. These phones have shown that people want to view their content more easier and have it presented to them without pinching to zoom. With the galaxy note, it's got a 5.3inch screen and this is just one example why phones these days have a high demand. Sure the screen is big for a phone but you can say that when moving from an iPhone to a galaxy s3, you find the screen to be big but in the long run, people want a more viewing experience.

I've talked about this before in one of my previous blogs and it was about the applications that have been fixed to the retina display and now with the iPhone 5 getting a bigger screen, what will this mean to the apps that haven't been optimized to the 4inch display or 4.1inch or whatever inch apple decides on. It will cause many apps to become stretched unless apple finds a way of keeping the same user interface and pushing the status bar and toggle UI to the edge of the screen so users will have more content on screen without the need of writing the code again for the iPhone 5. i'm just assuming here but this will not work for games, Twitter UI and a game UI is set out very differently. It's basically a different type of coding and the stretching of the app won't look nice on the iPhone 5.

One last note - The iPhone 4s has been knocked off to 4th place in the top selling phone. at the moment it's been beaten by the galaxy S3, the HTC onc X and the galaxy Nexus. yes the galaxy nexus that went on sale, last year. with the edition of jelly bean it's made people realise what a great phone it is and since it's not brand new they got it for almost a third of the price.

Inventor in me

When DVD players were becoming mainstream and VHS was slowly being phased out, I remember saying to my aunty even when this device wasn't invented, I must have been about 6 or 7 years old and I specifically remember saying to my aunty they should invent a VHS and DVD built into one unit and you'd be able to convert all your VHS videos to DVD by playing the VHS and pressing record on the DVD side. The only downfall would be that you'd had to watch the VHS footage in order to record it onto the DVD. So you can see from quite a young age I always had the ambition of inventing somethingg and leaving my mark on the world.

I've quite a lot of inventions written on the memos apps. Three ideas have already been invented, one of them is google glasses and I wrote it down in my phone to have a phone like experience built into glasses so you could reply to messages and answer phone calls without moving your arms. The other idea is...

IMDB torrent tab. Have you ever been looking at an IMDB page and thinking you'd like to download that and instead of switching the tabs you could just click the torrent and it would connect to piratebay or kick ass torrents and start downloading for you. As I found out just a couple of days ago I found a google extension where it was everything that described above.

So that's two of my ideas invented, the other one is 3D glasses stickable lens which i've mentioned in my previous blog.

See these are just the inventions that have already been invented but I came up with the idea months before. So even from a young age i've been inventing stuff small or large. All I need to do is get the materials or software and starting making these ideas of mine before they get snatched up by anyone else.

Microsoft word 2013

The developer preview of microsoft word has been released for the entire word to get their hands on it. Just like when microsoft brought out a developer preview of windows 8. It's basically to see what microsoft has done with the software and what new features has been intergrated into the new software. First of all i'd like to say i haven't downloaded microsoft word 2013 developer preview, this is just a news roundup on the topic.

If you're running windows XP or vista, you won't be able to run microsoft 2013. I can understand from an XP stand point, many computers and many businesses still use windows XP because that's one of the platforms that people are most farmilar with and it's one of the bog standard Operating sytems. Just like my college and i'm sure many other business are doing the same, we're finally moving over to windows 7 and the reason for this is because microsoft are cutting support for XP and obviously skipping to vista isn't the best idea after all it was a kind of a fail operating system, which i had no problem with.

One little side note, The most popular browser now is Google Chrome but just a few months ago Google chrome is the most popular browser during the weekends and since businesses and education buildings can't change internet browser like you can do at home, this caused internet explorer to be the most popular browser during weekdays.

Microsoft 2013 is going to be customized to fit with windows 8 touchscreen devices, it's going to feature the best text selection method ever seen on a touchscreen device. Remember there was a tweak called  Swipe selection and you could swipe your finger over the iPad virtual keyboard and it would scan back and if you swipe 2 fingers over the keyboard, it would scan faster enabling you to get the point in the text ready to edit and if you held the shift button and swipe your fingers, it would highlight that text ready for editing.
To fit with the touchscreen devices and the history of microsoft word, microsoft have decided to give it a more user friendly interface and without having many options, these options are said to be innovative and will flow through your word document. Check out the tweak it's very nice

another side note, Microsoft were sued for using a certain type of XML code to help write microsoft word 2003. This caught the eye of i4i who sued microsoft for 290 million dollars and microsoft were asked to stop selling the software with the infringing patent. This is a really stupid mistake by microsoft, they could have easily bought the company for a low fee and they could have used all the patents they aquired from purchasing that company.

Your android device

Technobuffalo's jon rettinger made a video the other day and it really hit some points that I was discussing a couple of weeks ago. One of the points were be happy with the phone that you've got the day you buy it. Buy a phone that will furfill your needs right away and don't look for a phone that might be getting updated to a recent software. Undoubtenly, I could actually use the same advice, I bought the pre 3 on the basis that it was going to become open sourced and all the major manufacturs and app developers would get their hands on it. Well in result to this the pre3 is getting android apps and iOS dratically increasing the amount of apps available from 4000 apps to a little over 2 million. I've been waiting for this webos enyo for about 6 months and it's still not come out yet. It's set to release september with all the things that HP open sourced crew promised.

I got a little bit off topic... Oh well. With any update to an android phone or any phone really. First of all a version of the update has to be tested and ripped apart so it works on that phone and that phones drivers and then it's got to go through the skinning process so if the manufacturer wants to put a skin on it like HTC sense and then it's got to be pushed to the device but before it comes to the public it's got to get carrier authroasion to ensure it works on the network and then eventually brought to the public and this is why many android devices have not been updated to ice cream sandwich yet because the likes of HTC feel like some devices aren't worth it or it's not capable to run the new software. So after these processe, it might come apprant that it's just not worth pushing out the new software and that's why many devices are on gingerbread instead of the new version of ICS. Many phones might have had the ICS updated but they haven't been updated further than that to a subsidived update e.g. 4.0.4. Since manufacturer have already made the leap to ICS and they don't want to go through the whole process again.

The only way you are guanteed updates and great life expecteny is one of the google nexus phones. Since they are made with life in mind by google and they want to keep this phone on the market for as long as possible. With the galaxy nexus there's virtually no need to root the phone since you are already getting the native OS.

There's a complete subject about rooting that i'd like to talk about but i'll do that in the future (not just android, i'll be talking about rooting iOS as well)

Roundup of tech news july 13th

Rovio the creators of the famous franchise angry birds which i actually did a blog of the other day. Well the creators have decided to bring out a rehatched mobile version of 'Amazing alex', a few months prior to this, the world kept getting little teasers of a game created by rovio. Amazing alex is a kind of a drop place and play type of game, you are given shelf, balloons, books and i'm sure other amazing and game changing mechanics and you can place these items to try and get the ball in the destanation or an item to cross a certain path.
I've played the demo and the demo doesn't seem to challenging and then again angry birds isn't challenging either. It's pretty good but i wouldn't say it's going to beat angry birds.

i'm sorry that there isn't much to this blog but if you've had a look on websites like T3 or technobuffalo there hasn't been much going on in the tech world. all it is, is rumours about iPhone and the iPad mini and other stuff like that. i'll talk about the iPad mini now and some of it i've said before.

Rumours are showing that apple are close to revealing an iPad mini sometime during 2012, one little sidenote, there's been rumours that the 4th generation iPad will be hitting the market at their iPod conference in november. Rumors of the iPad mini appear ludicours to me as steve jobs and the apple engineers had years of testing to see which form factor of a tablet felt the best in the hands and produced full screen websites. Steve jobs stuck with the 9.7 inch tablet because he thought tablets of a larger or a smaller size weren't ideal in his eyes. If apple do bring out a 7 inch tablet, i don't think it will wow the crowd but it will take most of the sales away from the other 7 inch tablets. If apple want to bring out a 7 inch tablet they've got to make sure it hits the 200 to 250 pound region in order for them to get some revenue.

see there's nothing really going on except from stuff that has been seen before and nothing can really be said about it, it's basically just small things this week and i don't blame you if you don't make it to the end of this blog.

Check out my YouTube channel of the same name 'Techguy276' I do 3D animations, not stuff that will blow you away but stuff just to create, keep me occupied... so yeh check me out :)

iPhone 5 and passbook

I've talked about this before but i've only talked about it briefly in the iOS 6 blog.

In iOS 6 we're getting an application imbedded into the world's most advanced mobile operating system and it's called passbook. Let's just say you are a starbucks account or partnership and you've recieved an offer to get a 50% off your next hot chocolate well if you're an iPhone user, you have to go into the app and pull up the starbucks application and then find the bar code or offer number so they can verify it. You hold the screen with the bar code on and it will scan like any other barcode. And you've got to do the same for other shops so apple have conviently created an app where it gets all your barcodes and offer codes gets pulled down from all the different servers so you don't have to find a specific app.

Well the reason i'm talking about passbook and the next generation of the iPhone will be coming out and it might get enabled with NFC (near field communications) This has been used in many phones and it could actually replace our wallets, there will be a small pin inside configured to your bank account and you can spend the funds without needs to carry round a wallet but the only downside, if anyone steals the phone, they can access everything without the need of a pin. This will be really good for the voucher sense and I think apple have really struck something with passbook but what can give it a step further is enabling NFC.

The state of angry birds

you've probably guessed from the title and i'm going to talk about angry birds but i'm not talking about angry birds in a good way, i'm talking about how over rated it is.

One point that i like about angry birds is the physics engine and a lot of people say they could easily create angry birds but when they look at the engine behind it and all the physics formulas that are used, it's not easily creatable. sure the idea of angry birds is a bit simple as angry birds have copied from crazy castle from a flash PC game and then they copied from another game from the NES library, i forget what it's called but there's one thing that angry birds have got above these other games it's the physics engine, an engine that has been revamped and red done to perfection.

the other thing is that angry birds is over rated. it steals from a formula from the gaming community has been known for. see with angry birds it has a fail and try again syndrome. it's all about trial and error, if at first you don't succeed you keep trying.

it's got friendly characters and array of cuddly toys and a massive fan base. new comers to the iPhone and android games are thinking this is the high point of gaming well it's not, it's because great games like GTA Chinatown wars for the iPhone is amazing but due to sloppy controls it fails.

With the iPhones and touch screen devices, and even the start of the 1990's games were becoming more mainstream and that caused the game developers to dumb down their games because they assumed the mainstream audience weren't smart enough to work out the games. look at Contra or the NES, tell me how many people actually completed that game without using the cheat codes. Not many people actually got all the way to end of Contra and that paves the way for other games in the NES library

sorry if this blog seems a bit pointless but i'd like to comment on it and give my own opinion on it

The Galaxy beam. Portable projector

i'm here to talk about the galaxy beam now i thought the galaxy beam was the NFC technology built into smartphone... well samsung smartphones as every samsung has got a galaxy naming convention to it. well a new smartphone has just been released to tech bloggers and they are hitting the internet with their reviews, hands on and unboxing videos and it turns out that the galaxy beam is the new smartphone comng from samsung with a built in projector and you'll be able to play games up to 50 inch on a white /blank surface.
surpringly these aren't very high specs for a phone that's just about to be released but saying that it's not meant to be about the specs, it's meant to be about the projector inside the phone which is the real seller of the device. it's not about how many megabytes of ram it has. all about the projector inside. but i'll just run through them:-
1ghz dual core cortex processor
756mb of ram
5 megapixel camera
8gb of storage
and here's the surprising, it's not up to the latest software of ice cream sandwich or jellybean, Samsung have decided to shoot at the way back down to gingerbread 2.3.6.

The projector inside the phone has 15 lumens that can project up to 50 inches of display. up to a couple of weeks ago i didn't know what lumens was, i never even heard of a lumen before until i was talking to my teacher about the projector in college and the bulb burnt out and i saw on the projector that it had 50 lumens. lumens are basically the capacity of what strength the projector can display.

Wearable iPhones

Something that hit the tech world in the past few days is wearable iPhones. From the concept, it looks really interesting in termsn of a device that you might end up wearing in the next few years, i'm of course talking about a world without google glasses or a glasses useable phone/computer.

it's looks to be about a 2.5 inch screen as there are only 3 rows of icons and that's including the dock from the iphone, with access to the app store, music and phone and i know this is just a rumour and concept but it's fun to speculate. The wearable iphone isn't wearable on the wrist like a watch rather it's on the back of your hand, hooked around your fingers with 3 chrome prongs and then 2 chrome prongs at the back securing itself round the wrist.

Personally i think it would be awkward trying to make a phone call on it since from the concept video, it shows that the microphone and in phone speaker are in the usual locations and it would cause you to inverting move your hand weirdly while you could easily stick a microphone and speaker on the chrome prongs so it would look like your only holding your hand up against your face.

Music wouldn't really be that fun either because like most headphones, they aren't long enough for all the acticitys my hand does and the wire would get in the way all the time unless you had a long sleeve shirt and you'd run the wire up your sleeve and into your ears.

Sure you've got other stocks apps like calculator, stocks, photos but there's one more and that's the app store, first of all if it's meant to be a wrist device, you'd only be able to play games like angry birds and games that only require one hand. I haven't seen the rumour specs that come with this iWrist but i wouldn't picture them pretty high if all they could do is play angry birds.

Google currents

There's an app that i've recently discovered, and you can probably guess from the title. It's google currents. This momumentally easy to keep up with the latest sources you've been assigned.

When I first logged in with my google ID it immediatly brought out current compatible news feeds that I was interested. See google track everything that you do, they even have the power to read your emails becuase unde the terms and conditions it says that google can lease out your browserr history and emails to other clients.

This is exactly same what internet service providers do, in order for them to gain small revenue, they sell your information like telephone numbers, email address and your name and if you're UK citizxen you've probably been rung up in the middle of the day or during the evening by people asking you, do you want to doa survey/questionaiire. Well this where them companys get your information.

Got off topic, see google remembers your search history so it creates a subject of what you like. When I first logged in it brought up websites like gizmodo and 9to5mac, sites like them because it knew that I was interested into technology. Of course you add your own feeds like mainly the sites is technobuffalo and idownloadblog. And of course my blog just to see how it looked on google currents. I've been putting pictures on my blogs so they look more presentable on currents.

I solely recommend to every user to frequently goes onto a website daily for their news. It's the most used app on my touchpad except from youtube which has a nice cinamtic view of all your subscribed videos.

I recommend to everyone and it might even get you starting writing your own blog and how to make it more presentable in blog form.

Roundup of tech news July 6th

As you recall last week i talked about blackberry 10 being delayed well new news have come up this week saying that the rim CEO  has said that there;s nothing wrong with the state of rim as it is at the moment. First of all how can you be so argonant on the state of the company. everyone in the tech world has said that if blackberry 10 isn't a success then rim are going down and so is there BBM service. and now that BB10 is delayed, i actually think I'm won't make it till the end of the year unless they bring out a product that revolutionary... i'm talking sarcastically of course :P
rim have now also revealed that rim is pushing the workers to push Blackberry 10 out the window and by doing this, they have employed more workers hand they are making them work 6 days out of the week just to get it out of the door and onto the users devices.

there's loads of apps for iOS devices and possibly the first one that any Facebook user will download is the Facebook app. First of all i'd like to say Facebook has been become a around program and network where anybody can come on send you a friends request and you'll start talking to them. it's simple and it's fast. just over a 6th of the world is on Facebook and there's over a half of them are mobile users so they've got to have a good dedicated app sand Facebook have done it again and bringing out a Facebook app centre app. i'm not sure if you can install and run apps from within the app center or just allow you access for when you eventually log into a desktop version of Facebook.

Google IO is the second biggest technology press conference, the first one being apple of course. But remember Google glasses how you could pre-order a pair for one thousand 500 dollars but he's the catch, you had to pre-order so early that demand was that high and also the glasses are only coming out in 2013. One person from technobuffalo visited Google IO and while he was there decided to pre-order the glasses and in return he didn't just get a receipt but he got a slab of glass with his code laser cutted into it. it' a very neat way of remembering that you were one of the lucky few to be at the Google IO event and have the money to have on you to buy the Google glasses. picture at the bottom.

iGoogle

remember igoogle, the internet search engine offering for customization to your homepage, you could add games like pacman or any flash game game that was partners with Google. well google have announced on tuesday that they are going to kill igoogle and all of it's entureiys. I remember when the first thing that the massive internet company first started off as was with was just a search engine.

Literlally i think in a couple of years time, maybe 10 or 20 years, google will be taking over the world, i heard the other day that google developed a brain, not a human sized brain but artifical intelliegence. the brain goes over 16,000 processors that can process information and develop it's own ideas and forumlate all of it's findings and creaties a conclusion. and it's basically what human brains can do today.

this is why google are taking over the world, Android, youtube, social networking, shopping, wallet, apps, every form of media that you cam think of google have got their hands on a piece of software thats built into that, they've even got their own smart tv.

with the internet just getting credit for actually being a useful tool other that looking up videos of cats  or finding other ways to spend your time, peope were using the internet for business uses which is what it was intented for in the first place. Well behind these doors, google were developing a way for people to have quick access information so they could easily catch up on the days news and this is where iGoogle came in and sadly now with the introduction of widgers and apps and google chrome being intergrate into more and more platforms and getting introduced to new features they've decided to cut igoogle off entirely and iGoogle is going ot be shut down november 13th 2013. This allows users to adjust and export there data so that there data isn't just immeditally cut off from the world.

what i've just read now is that google is killing off google video as well, google made google video to compete with youtube and since google video was a massive failure compared to youtube, they thought instead of trying to beat them...buy them. Google are also killing off Google Mini, Google Talk Chatback, Google Video and its Symbian Search application.

Ice cream sandwich bar

There's something at the bottom of ice cream sandwich powered devices that really bug me. It's the bottom bar, where the home button, multitasking button and the time live, see having this on all the time losing a lot of the devices screen real estate, it's only a little less than a centimetre on the screen but it's one centimeter could be put to better use.

Now for the bottom bar isn't really that bad for tablets as Google have conviently put the home button and the notification centre in a easily  approachable area but for the smart phones especially the Google nexus, i appreciate what Google have tried to do with the introduction to virtual buttons rather that physical ones but it's waste screen real estate at least Google had the common courtesy to make the bottom bar black so it wasn't using as many pixel power as it needed to.

i prefer physical buttons over soft touch buttons or virtual buttons, if you take the shell off a phone that has soft touch buttons it will reveal that it's only a touch screen... that touch screen is antipicating when you're going to hit which is wasting but not a lot of battery life. physical buttons are the way to go for any smart phones.

i'm a bit hypocrital here because I've got a pre 3, the pre 3 or any other webos device expect from the touch pad has got a gesture area, that's a soft touch button that has three ambient sensors and depending on which way you swipe the lights will follow. swiping up on the gesture area is basically a home button so i can't really talk but what i'm getting at is phones with virtual home buttons waste so much screen real estate and should be put to better use.

sorry if it doesn't make any sense but you get the idea of what i'm trying to say.
there's nothing been going on in the tech world this week that have got a lot of coverage or nothing that i have no opinion on

Next android OS

With the new intergration of jellybean, there's been quite a lot of features that have been intergrated into android over the past couple of yearsand it's hard to say what should be included.
With iOS there's alot of feautres that's in android and that i've failed to see an introduction into iOS, Sure iOS give you a more fun and more fluent user epxerience but it's features over the user experience that android has.

If it wasn't for opening souricng android and giving the entire phone manfactuter access to the software, android would not hold over 60% share of the smartphone world. Cheap handsets is what helps around out a lot, Idevices are more of a luxury item to other people, some people want a all around experience and some people just got a resonable priced smartphone that can do light internet browsing and phone and text people.
now the reason i came here today was talking about the new version of android and i'm not talkng about jellybean, i'm talking of android 4.2 or 4.5 or we might end up jumping in the entire 4.0 area and skip to 5.0.

if you've noticed in the past couple of years, google have been naming their operating system firmwares after desert names, the first one being:-
1. 5 cupcake
1.6  donut
2. 0 and 2.1 is eclair
2.2 froyo
2.3 gingerbread - i'll talk about that some more in a minute
3. 0 honeycomb
4. 0 Ice cream sandwich
4.1 Jellybean

And now there's a next version and as you can see they are dessert names but they are all running in alphabetical order so here's where a simple google search comes in... the next version of android is most likely to be called kiwlime pie.

i'm not sure what features could be included into the next version, it might only be a couple of new behind the scenes features or it might eventually be a mobile operating sytem that can support multi-cores and giving developers more freedom so that they don't have to type in specific code to get their app running.

Sonic CD

One of the games I've always failed to play is sonic CD, not because i wasn't able to play it, we there was always an issue with getting Sega CD back when i was a child and it was realislty a stupid a idea to get Sega CD of the 32X, they weren't a good investment at all. The only games that were really worth it was jussasic park and of course sonic CD.
I can see why everybody claims that sonic CD is the best sonic game in the entire franchise, . The music is brilliant as long as you're playing on the Japanese soundtrack, everything with the Japanese is just more like classic sonic, which i love. If i played sonic CD as a child like a did with the rest of the Sega genesis sonic games, i think sonic CD would have been the best sonic game of all time in my eyes but after year and years of building sonic 3 and knuckles in my head that snic CD just can't compete with it. Sonic CD might be a classic but it's still not a classic my eyes.
i"ve bee brought up to the 16 bit music for all sonic games so I've got a hard time getting used to the CD quality music of Sonic CD even when it;s on the japensese music.
The thing with sonic CD is that Sega introduced time stones instead of the traditional chaos emeralds and this is just one flaw in a flawless game, Is the future and past time sequences, sure they are a nice edition to the game and give you multiple way to play the level but  to me they just seem kind of a gimmick to me and they give you something to go back and play over and over again to see what the future parts an wat past parts look like in each of the levels.
The special stages of sonic CD are actually entertaining, i woudn't say they are better than the sonic 3 special stages but they are a nice take on what sonic CD is trying to represent in the graphics department. the special stages in sonic the hedgehog 2 are awful, that's my own opinion, it's not that i couldn't do them but it's the way that tails would get in the way all the time and you'd end up losing half your rings just on tails doing stupid mistakes whilst you're doing the special stages.
my closing statement is, if Sonic CD is given to me as a child, i think the best sonic game in my eyes would have been sonic CD but since sonic 3 and knuckles has been in the back of my mind as the best sonic game for many years that i don't think my childhood memories of sonic 3 and knuckles that no game would compete with it.

HP and Palm

With the death of webos devices, HP destroyed their ambitions for webos. When webos was first aquired from Palm in april 2010, HP were going into give their PC's a webos style media centre, heck they were even going to introduce their printers with a Webos interface and these printers were successfully brought to market. so you can kinda see they had big plans for webos.

Keeping already established devices by palm, HP promised that they'd bring continuous updates to the palm family 'Palm Pre, Palm Pixi, and the "Plus but since the hardware inside these devices wasn't good enough to support Webos 2.0. So What HP did was upgrade the hardware of similar devices by outrighting the entire Palm market. This became the introduction to the HP veer, which is a small webos device, roughly the same size as the Palm Pixi. It's got a 2.6 inch screen with a resolution that can pump up to 197 pixels per inch, as with any Palm/HP webos phone, it's got a full qwerty keyboard.

I might have said this before in another blog but this is one of the things that really really bug me with palm/HP, is that you don't have a on-screen keyboard. What if you want to send a quick message or just a quick web search, you've got to flip out the qwerty keyboard to do any tasks that require the keyboard. for years you'd think palm/HP would realise that some tasks could be easier if you had an on-screen keyboard. Granted they've got the jailbreak/Preware community to help and push the borders of webos.

I'll be honest, when i first saw the webos system, i wasn't really stricked by it, nothing wowed me enough to actually purchase the device but ever since the HP touchpad fire sale happened, i've become a lover of webos and want to get everything webos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIxk14xysFg&feature=related&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode=1&safe=active < It's a shame that this advert was broadcast in the UK, if palm broadcast this advert in the UK they would have got a lot more revenue for their products.
