Roundup of tech news 31st august

With September just coming up over the horizon, and what are we expecting, well we're expecting a release of iOS 6 and get it out of beta and became available for the general market and then there's the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 6 or even the iPhone SJ, whatever it's called we are expecting a new iPhone and maybe in the last quarter of this year, a new iPad or an iPad mini. well i'll talk about that when it comes up in the forever thriving tech world. Here comes the tech news of this week.

With the Apple VS samsung patent war over, There's a new step afoot, Samsung have been dropping the prices of their smartphones to nearly 5% to 10% off. This is a result of the one billion dollars samsung had to give apple due to their patent infringment. What are samsung doing about this. Well if apple bring out an iPhone 5 with 4G LTE, samsung are planning on sueing apple due to samsung having a patent against 4G LTE in devices. They aren't suing everyone else with smartphone equipped with 4G LTE so this could and probably will be a direct hit against apple to what they did to them.

4K displays yes 4K!! what does 4K mean? well imagine how big of a difference between Standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) there was in colour, saturation and overall the pixel density. Well 4K display is 4 times the quality found in the highest end HD displays. and there's a massive difference between them. remember when you first got a HD telvision and you were flicking back and forth between channels to see if there was a big enough change to justify a HD TV, well with 4K display, you can see the difference straight away. I'm not just talking about SD to 4K i mean 1080p HD to 4K. there's a massive difference, the blacks are crushed with greater depth (no that's not racist, it's a colour correction term) Colours look so bright and vivid and i honestly think this is the resolution James cameron was going for with Avatar. HD quality movies and games look brilliant but once you've seen the a 4K display, HD will appear pixelated.

IFA 2012 is happening right now and since i'm not a big enough tech blogger, or have a fancy youtube channel to have access to the IFA floor so i have to rely on other tech bloggers to give me a roundup and a daily information download.

UK acquiring 4G LTE

I've just been looking down the latest and greatest technology news and one article stuck out like a soar thumb for me. If you're living in the UK and you read tech news just like i do, Many bloggers talk about having 4G LTE in their area and how ultra fast it is compared to 3G. Well here in the UK, we are jealous of american users, they've had 4G for over 2 years now and yet, UK users are still stuck on the 3G network. The average speed of the 3G network is roughly around 4mpbs, at it's best as reported by T-mobile and vodafone, their best 3G speeds are 6mpbs.

What the difference between 3G and 4G, well it's almost like having Wi-Fi in your pocket. Speeds on the 4G network can work upto 12mpbs, sometimes higher depending on where you're living. there's one disadvantages to having 4G on your phone, It's a bigger drainer than using the 3G network.

If you've ever watched freeview TV (this doesn't include cable TV, or Tivo) and sent a text and the feed coming in through your TV goes funny, Pixelated and laggy (It's the same thing when using Edge and 3G) well that's because your phone is connecting to it's nearest network tower and your TV could be in the path between your phone and the network tower and that's basically why it goes funny. You might be thinking "this doesn't happen to me, i've never experienced that problem" but i bet your TV isn't in the way of the networking tower, If you faced another direction or placed your TV in another spot where it was going to be in the path, well then you'd experience the laggy pixelated experience.

Since december, London were creating test for 4G environments, to see if they were compatible with our TV feeds and mainly to see if they worked on our networks as good. If you went down to London when the olympics were on and you had a 4G phone, you might have experienced 4G speeds.

The reason i'm talking about 4G is because HTC could be releasing a new edition to the One series, called the HTC One XL and this phone could be a massive failure or a huge step forward in what we call internet on the go. It's going to be the first 4G smartphone that has been specifically tested for our network.

What has Samsung revealed?

During IFA, Loads of companies come together and show off what they've got, except from apple that think their so special that they need a separate events for their products. The company that are making big hits at the moment is Samsung. But with what products well i'll tell you.

Something that i'll talk about that i actually think will make a big break if the price is affordable for the general public. If it reaches the £200 price mark well samsung have really got a killer product when i say a killer product, i don't mean like the iPad but i mean what the iPad accomplished with other companies making a stab in the tablet market with their products.

The galaxy Camera, It's an android powered Camera, with a 16 Megapixel sensor, 21x optical zoom. With a stunning 4.8inch 720p display. And here's the best part about it. It's running Jelly bean, all the caching and saving and including the buttery smoothness of Project Butter. Nikon have tried to create a android powered camera before but it's not really took off as the capabilies wasn't there. With the Galaxy camera, you've got full access to the play store, access facebook, upload your pictures to your favourite social networking sites on the Go with 3G and 4G capabitles. Comes with all the features that we love about touchwiz and the android operating system but...BUT without a phone app, Which i entirally agree on with samsung in that respect, why would you want to hold a camera to your ear.

Another product is the samsung Galaxy Note II. Yes i know what you're thinking another Galaxy Note but it sold 10 million ever since it was released and now Samsung have brought a new galaxy note to the market. The original Galaxy note had a 5.3 inch screen and people thought that was big well, Samsung are bringing out a 5.5inch galaxy note with obviously updated specs, the original had a 1.4ghz dual core cortex A9 Processor and 1gb of ram. Well samsung have pracitically doubled it, 1.6ghz Quad core processor (not sure if it could be snap dragon processor or tegra 3) and now it's packing 2gb of ram. and the same as last time, 16gb/32gb/64gb model, all available to expandable storage. Yes it does feature Jelly bean. Samsung must have been working very close with google to bring devices like these so close and all running jelly bean. First of many companies that will be skipping Ice cream sandwich all together and going over to jelly bean straight away. a Whopping!! 3,100 Mah battery. That's just just a little bit over the battery in my phone and my phone lasts about 2 full days with heavy texting and lite internet browsing and gaming.

Nintendo Wii U release date revealed

Nintendo was suppose to announce the Wii U release date in a couple of weeks time at their conference but with many people working round one product, somethings is bound to slip up, well somebody did. PDP (Performance Designed Products) were talking about the accessories that were going to be included with the device and the presenter slipped on and said "expect to see all these accessories when the Wii U comes out on the 18th of november.

18th of novemeber is perfect for the revolutionary new system comes out. It's very close to thanks giving and what happens after thanks giving, Black Friday. If you cast your mind back to 2006 when the original Wii was released, That black friday was on reports the worst black friday ever. Since stocks of the Wii were terribly low, every was pushing and shoving and they wanted to guarntee that they got the wii that year. The stock was still very low a few days later and the price of them on ebay were going for £500-£1500. People were going crazy over this device and would pay over the odds to get it.

18th of november is also a sunday and Nintendo have been releasing their consoles on a sunday, With the original DS and the first Wii.

Update - Nintendo have come forth and they've said "To be clear, PDP has no knowledge whatsoever of the official Wii U release date, and thus it is not possible for PDP to have 'leaked' this information. PDP simply gave a presentation of our fall line of gaming accessories to our customers at a trade event in which we stated that our Wii U accessories would be there at launch. Later in the presentation, we stated that our Epic Mickey II accessories are currently planned to be in stores by November 18. PDP has no knowledge as to whether this is the official Wii U release date or not, and thus nothing was 'leaked'."

So Now people are expecting the Wii U to be announced at Nintendo's New York City Press Conference on September 13th

The Nexus 7 Is still popular

When google first announced the Nexus 7, i honestly thought that it would just slip away like every other tablet in the market, Like how many people still talk about the transformer prime, or the original galaxy Tab, unless you've got one, it's virtually no one talking about it. obviously there's the iPad that's always in the market's mind, everybody compares a tablet to this tablet due to it was the first mainstream tablet PC.

Bill gates announced a tablet PC all the way back in 2002 and i bet you're all wondering, i never knew this. Well that's because The tablet PC was still way too early in the market and the technlogy just wasn't there yet and we were still perfecting PC's with it's functionality and it's power.

Look at PC's like 10 years ago and look at technology today, my 2 year old phone beats the specs by a little bit and that was a phone, All i'm saying is technology has moved so fast in the last ten years and things have become so powerful that we are looking to fill that power with apps, music, camera and other features. Steve Jobs Announced the iPad in 2010 and for the tech world and the consumers, this was the perfect time, and with a great product like the iPad it wasn't long for manufacturers to catch up and copy.

Sorry i digressed, The nexus 7 is Cheap, affordable and Yes, It's got Very high specifications, a Quad core Tegra 3 Processor With any tablet, the screen is the main focus, well the nexus 7 has a beautiful screen of 1280x800, Every pixel is stunning and it looks like you're looking at paper. The tablet is not Powering gingerbread or honeycomb or even Ice cream sandwich, it's powering Jelly bean.
Jelly bean is so smooth and reacts with your every touch, Every tech blogger i've seen or heard, They are absolutley love Jelly bean and how fast it is compared to Ice cream sandwich and more previous generations of android. I've not had the chance to test out Jelly bean first hand but i've got a rom on my phone that's Ice cream sandwich but it gives me jelly bean like experience.

Here in the UK it's £159, How can you go wrong with that, It's £159 You can either buy it in a 8gb model or a 16gb model, the 16gb model is going to cost you £199. if you buy it and you didn't like it, which is impossible, take it back or give it one of your family members, you've not lost on a massive amount of money. Due to the coverage of this tablet, I highly recommend it.

Samsung and Apple patent war verdict

I'd just like to point out that this is my 100th blog that i've posted ever since i started back in April.
What do you think about me properly starting up my youtube channel by creating a tech themed environemt and reading out some of my blogs that i've written here and present them on my youtube channel?

Apple has won on the majority of its claims, Samsung has not been able to prove any of its points against Apple. Many phones were found to have violated Apple’s rights, but the tablets were found to not infringe on the iPad. Apple has been rewarded damages of $1,051,855,000 (1 billion, 51 million, 855 thousand) dollars. Samsung has been awarded $0.

The jury in the Apple Vs. Samsung court case have reached a verdict. The ruling is expected to read any time now and we will update you as the information comes in.
On the claims by Apple, the jury has found that Samsung did infringe on the claim of 19 of the /301 patents – the rubber band patent.. This covers the Galaxy Tab Wifi, Captivate, Continuum, Droid Charge, Exhibit 4G, Galaxy Ace, Prevail, S 4G, S II, Galaxy Tab, Gem, Indulge, Infuse 4G, Mersnmerize, Nexus S, Replenish and Vibrant.
On the 915 patent (scrolling with one finger), the jury found in favor of Samsung on the Ace, Intercept and Replenish. On the Captivate, Continuum, Droid Charge, Fascinate, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S II, i9100, Galaxy s II, Tab, Tab 10.1, Gem, Indulge, Infuse and Nexus S 4G they found in favor of Apple.
On the 163 patent (double tap to zoom and center content), Samsung was found to have infringed on the Droid Charge, Epic 4G, Exhibit 4G, Fascinate, Ace, Prevail, Galaxy X, Galaxy S 4g, S II AT&T, i9100, S II, Galaxy Tab, Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, Mesmerize, Fascinate and Replenish. The anser was “no” on the Captivate, Continuum, Gem, Indulge, Intercept, Nexus S 4G, Transform and Vibrate.
For the D’677 patent (iPhone design), the Fascinate, Galaxy S, S 4G, S2, Skyrocket, Showcase, Infuse 4G, Mesmerize and Vibrant were found to infringe, but not the Ace.
The D’087 patent (home button, rounded corners) was a yes for the i9000, S4G and Vibrant, but no on the S2, i9100, Epic 4G Touch, Skyrocket and Infuse 4G.
The icons on the home app page (D’305) went in favor of Apple on the Captivate, Continuum, Charge, Epic 4G, Fascinate, S 4G, Gem, Indulge, Infuse 4G, Mesmerize and Vibrant.
Damages from Samsung to Apple were calculated at $1,051,855,000 (1 billion, 51 million, 855 thousand) dollars. The damages are now being broken down by phone for some examples:
  • Prevail – over $57 million
  • Infuse 4G – $44,792,974
  • Replenish – $3,350,256
  • Transform – $950,060
On Samsung’s claims against Apple in regards to the iPhone, the jury found in favor of Apple on all counts. As for the iPod touch, Samsung was also met with a resounding no. Samsung was awarded nothing in damages.

After all of this crisis, and after apple have made such stupid patents for rounded icons, and a rectangler shape for their tablet and many other patents. This is going to be Samsung's new tablet.
Obviously this is a joke but it mainly hits how stupid apple are by eliminating the competition before they've even got a chance.

There's not much summary to be given here, i've not actually written this blog and it's taken directly from technobuffalo. i Couldn't put it better myself, As i was saying in my blog prior to this, The consumer will lose any way it turns out.

Roundup of the tech news 24th of august

Over this past week Rockstar have been teasing the gaming world and the tech world and basically every form of media world with screenshots of their newly anticipated game GTA 5. The Sandbox world of GTA 4 was so brilliant, characters had great detail and a rich back story, environments were stunning and flawless and espically amazing on PC. So far this week rockstar have released 12 screen shots, 4 on monday, 4 on wednesday and 4 today and here they are.

Sorry, i tried uploading all the images but blogger wouldn't let me, Just search GTA 5 screenshots into google.
Microsoft for reasons that i can't understand have changed their logo, and changing from the logo from we all know and love and making a logo that i honestly think is strange for the company's image. here's what they mentioned in their logo for their reason to change it.

"The logo has two components: the logotype and the symbol. For the logotype, we are using the Segoe font which is the same font we use in our products as well as our marketing communications. The symbol is important in a world of digital motion. The symbol’s squares of color are intended to express the company’s diverse portfolio of products."

if you haven't already go onto the app store and updated your facebook application, well i think you should do it now. Facebook has ditched the HTML5 programming language and decided to use a programming language that's built for speed. Using iOS's APIs and internals, they've the created the fastest facebook experience on an iPhone. This is now a bullet train compared to the steam train version on the previous facebook application. They've also included new tweaks and features including gesture support that enables easier one handed browsing. Many users have appluaded facebook on the success of the app and how many wonders they've experience with the app.

Speaking of facebook, Facebook has intergrated a new messaging screen, instead of going to the message notification panel to switch from converstion to converstion, you'll now have a easy to see messaging screen and this will be rolling out to users in the upcoming months.

Something that i thought the tech world wouldn't come up with. Changing the back on your iPhone 4/4s is simple and easy and anybody can do it and now with the rumoured pictures of the iPhone 5 back panels, you can switch your iPhone 4/4S back panel with a rumoured iPhone 5 back panel. obviously the iPhone 5 is going to be relativy larger than the iPhone 4 and people at iFIXIT have shrunk it down so it can easily be placed on the iPhone 4 back.

Thanks for reading and that's been the roundup this week.

iOS controller

IOS has become the biggest selling platformer of all time even betting the PS2 which is the most successful gaming console of all time. The playstation is the most influential gaming console out there with it's analog stick and triggers and that shaped the gaming controller on today. Speaking about controllers android 4.0 ICS supports external game controllers, if you find a miniUSB to a MicroUSB and use your PS3 controller to play your favourite gameloft characters and it works with your emulators so play mario in the original super mario bros on the NES emulator.

iOS has become the best known platform for games, and its the basis of all mobile applications. If you want your app to get known and get credit, post it to the app store and watch your money build up. IOS has got a massive list of third party controllers, some of them use bluetooth as there way to get access to the iOS controls and then you've got some that connects via the 30 pin connector and now you've got a iOS game controller that connects through the 3.5mm headphone jack so you know what that means no need to charge the controller up, no need for bluetooth just plain old plug and play.

This gets me on my next subject. You'd think that apple would produce some sort of simple gaming controller than developers can easily program for those games that use the terrible virtual joystick. I'm not sure how i feel about this, apple could create their own slide out keyboard addon for the iPhone 4/4S and soon to be released iPhone 5 and make the iPhone it's still thinniest profile it cant be but including the best physical joypad phones have ever seen.

What do you think do you think apple should make their own controller for the iPhone, iPod's and iPad's? Could this be the next big thing coming from apple or will we just see an iPad mini and a iPhone 5?

Thanks for reading.

iOS is BORING.

With the new introduction to the new iOS family with iOS 6 coming soon, you'd think apple would make a bigger change to their operating system. Let's face it the look of iOS hasn't changed in the last 5 years Other than notification centre and multi-tasking it's stayed pretty much the same. Android users have the luxury of changing the look and feeling without jailbreaking/rooting. They've got most of the options to customize it has already been built in to the operating system and that's why most of the people that i know have moved over to android since they've found the iPhone lacking basic smartphone features.

What's special with iOS 6 except it's the new interation to the iOS 6. What does it actually do that's practical. Ok maps with 3D built in, sure that's really nice but i'm only ever going to use it to show off the capabilits of the device or what apple have done to rival with google's own mapping system. I thought this wasn't surprising at all. Android have add this function since froyo, maybe even before then but the earliest i've seen it is in froyo. If someone is phoning you and you're not able to pick up the phone, well if you're using a Pre iOS 6 device, you've got to type the message out like 'I'm in a meeting' and now with iOS 6 you swipe up and you get a list of pre-set messages that you can easily click and it will send away to the person that's ringing you.

speaking of iOS 6, you've got a new intergrated called Passbook and that lets you display your vouchers and coupons on the screen so you can easily place your iPhone infront of a scanner and the scanner will do it's thing and you can get money off items. Here comes what i've suggested in the past in NFC being built into the iPhone 5. NFC stands for Near field communication, A lot of Android powered smartphones have it built it and it's basically a chip that lives inside your phone that acts like debit card so you can easily buy your stuff through your phone and without the need to carry your card. NFC is low powered and takes up less battery comsumption than Bluetooth.

I honestly think that iOS is getting boring now, It's nice to speculate on what the next iPhone might look like and what it will feature. Apple are great making hardware but when it comes to software, i think they are lacking creativty and they are stealing many ideas from android. iOS notification centre looks for prettier than android but it's a stolen idea and i think apple will need to come up with something soon to get the credit back that they used to own. It's not like they've got no money. Apple is the Most valuable company is the history of companies ever...EVER!! so it's safe to say they've got a lot of money at their disposable and they could invest it into new workers bringing in some new fresh ideas that aren't copied.

Apple TV

For the last two blogs, i've talked about my personal experiences with technology and that's not because i'm switching over to that side of technology, it's because there's nothing really going on in the tech world that's very interesting to me and some of the storys that i'm seeing is the apple and Samsung patent war which i'm actually getting tired of but it's over the a couple of days so i'll let you know how the consumer is going to lose. in a nut shell, if samsung wins the consumer loses and if apple wins the consumer wins so either way we are going to lose.

You can probably guess from the title that i'm going to talk about the apple TV, i've not much to say on the Apple TV unless i digress like normal.  It's got some great built in feature but i'll talk about the main features first. Right we all know there's a little Apple set top box and that lets you view your iTunes content and you can select from a wide range of movies and rent them or buy them and they will be stored onto the apple TV box for keeping. It's not only movies no no, with a product called Apple TV it would be stupid if it only had movies and not TV programmes. There has been plenty of rumours going round that Apple are getting TV companys like NBC and ABC to have their Shows stream straight to the apple TV for easy viewing. No need to record the favourite programs they'll already be there on the apple servers ready for you to stream or download them.

As one of the quotes from the walter iccasson biography of steve jobs, it says 'I think i've finally cracked Apple TV' so In the upcoming months could we see an actual Apple TV and i'm not talking about a little set top box, a 32 inch or 42 inch television produced by apple that's already got Apple TV built in to it's core.

Now on the great features, Something that you might not know but Apple TV is that you can connect your iPad or iPhone or iPod to your apple TV by a USB cable or via a wireless connection. You can view the movies that you have on your iOS device on the TV and here comes the fun part, Connect your iDevice upto the Apple TV and lets say you're playing real racing, you can use your iPhone has a remote control so you can lie back looking at your television while playing a great iOS title. The best part is that you're iPhone screen will not be turned off, if you look at your iPhone during the experience it will be a Wingscreen mirror so you can see what's going on behind you from your iPhone.

Playstation Vita 'PS VITA'

I've probably talked about this before but it's come to my attention that the playstation vita has only sold a miserable 2.2 million units since Decemeber last year. The Nintendo 3DS sold 6.68 million units in the same point in it's life cycle as where the PS vita is right now. That's disappointing but here's the reason i think it is.

The world is saturated with mobile devices, Take the iPhone for example or infact take iOS instead. iOS is the most successful and the most profitable Gaming system ever and speaking of successful things Apple have become the most valuable company in the history of mankind. With their stock hitting a all time high of $664 the other day and the iPhone side of apple is more valuable than the entire company of microsoft... That's just astounding but i have to say that i'm not surprised.

Right where was i.
The world doesn't need portable dedicated gaming devices when they are already carrying round an iPhone or a android device or iPod and they've got great games sure some games use the terrible virtual joysticks. People aren't going to carry round another device when they've already got a device that does what the other device does. It's the exact same thing with the camera business. Kodak and other camera manufacters are in risky waters because people aren't buying cameras any more because when they take out their phone, they've got a camera with a built in phone and gaming system, so they aren't gonna take out another device. The only people that actually buy cameras other than the mainstream audience such as Photographers and other people in media related jobs and industry.

The playstation vita packs a big punch and has a lot of power behind it. And the first and third party support they've got is amazing. Uncharted of the PSVita is the best looking game i've seen on any portable device and i mean every portable device. Textures just pop with crisp and the lighting effects are visually stunning and with the shadows well with the shadows, it makes you feel like you're really there. With third party support the playstation vita has games like Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, LittleBigPlanet, Call of duty and who could forget the exclusive Playstation Vita title from irrational games. Bioshock!

Jailbreaking on iOS and Android

With iOS devices, we are limited to what apple tell us what we want and we are restricted to run third party tweaks or system modifications. Apple like to keep it locked down so we aren't running any dodgy software or having easy access to pirated apps.

Well this gets me on the subject to today's blog. I recently rooted by samsung Galaxy Si9000 and when it comes to rooting android devices, it's quite complicated for a first time rooter or a person coming from a long history of a iOS jailbreaker. With iOS i could possibly name every jailbreak software that you use to actually jailbreak your iOS device but with android, it's not so simple to remember all the rooting programs for every android device. Each android device requires a different type of program and a different set of files that are used to configure and put clockwork mod on.

Clockwork mod is a rooting menu, that you can have full access to the device, Wiping cache/Data, installing a zip, create a partition on the SD card and any other command that you can think of is on Clockwork mod. It's an overall service that lets you install different operating systems. I've got Ice cream sandwich but with Jellybean inspired speed, icons and overall look and feel on my Galaxy Si9000 and that's the different between rooting and moding. During the process of rooting the device, i lost the original operating system that was on it (Froyo) and it was either set in download mode or Bricked.

I honestly apprectiate Samsung and Google creating a Hacking/rooting process where it's easy for the user. Using the 3 buttons combination (Volume down+Home+power), you can access the download mode screen and it's easy to root your device.

With the process of jailbreaking iOS devices, It's entirally different and incredibly easy. Heck there was once a website called Jailbreakme.com and you'd access the website through safari on the iOS device, you'd follow the on screen instructions and only a few minutes later, your iOS device would be jailbroken. This is easiest way to jailbreak ever but sadly it's been purchased by another hacker group and we've not heard from them in ages plus they might have not found out a way to jailbreak iOS 5+ devices.

Redsn0w is the default program to go for when jailbreaking the iOS devices. It's compatible with other jailbreak programs and it's one of the oldest jailbreak software out there. With the 3 button combination on android, on iOS you've got to enter DFU mode which is basically a recovery/Download mode for iOS. To enter DFU you've got to hold down the power button for 3 seconds and then hold the home and the power button for 10 and then release the power button but not letting go of the home button and you've got to hold the home button for an additional 20 seconds. The phone may appear to be off but that's just what DFU mode is.

Overall i think iOS is the easiest to do and remember but with iOS you've got to wait for a compatible jailbreak with your device and then it might only be tethered and not untethered. With android, once you've got it rooted, you can install any version of Android you like and even custom version of android.

Roundup of tech news 17th august

Here's a big thing that we all wasn't expecting in the google play store, Google are introducing smart updates to their apps which fundamentally means that you won't need to download the entire size of the app again and everytime you update, you'll just download the nessessary files that you need to make the update complete. The original name to these updates were called Delta updates, it's exactly the same of what apple does with their mobile operating system (iOS) ever since they introduced over the air (OTA) updates, you don't have to plug your phone into the computer and update the OS, you can do it all straight on your phone.
say you were downloading an update for angry birds, you'd have to download 25 megabytes but with google's smart updates, the download size has been stripped down from 25 megabytes to 4 megabytes. This is very very smart by Google and cuts out a massive amount of internet usage across the entire world.
Remember the Galaxy note? Well samsung have released the numbers of how much samsung actually sold of the Phablet and you'd be quite shocked, it's 10 million. Yes the massive 5.3 inch screen has sold over 10 million and that's quite a lot considering how many people were a bit curious on how you'd look on a phone call with a device that big. Well Figures were that high that samsung are being rumoured to bring out another galaxy Note, convientally called the Galaxy Note 2 which updated specifications and a bigger screen and yes i'm not joking they've been rumoured to bring out a bigger phone, Bigger than the original note. It's going to have 1.5ghz quad core exynos chipset inside and that's going to be powering the 1280x800 - 5.5inch screen so it's just 0.2 inches bigger than it's predessor and sadly it's going to come with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 instead of the most praised mobile operating system Jelly bean which i may add is so sleak and fast with project buttah being intergrated into it.

After years of having the PS3 and the PS3 being a media centre advertised and promised by SONY, i've always thought there's one thing missing from it becoming the ultimate media centre and that one thing missing is a YouTube Application, well my prays and i'm sure many people's prays have been answered. The PS3 has finally got the Youtube application but there's a catch, at of this moment it's only available in the US and Google promise that it will be connecting many more countries to the list. The next country in mind will be the united kingdom.
In a little side note, Apple stock closes at a all time high. after nearly touching $650 during a mid-day spike back in April, it plummeted below $600, and has hovered around that mark ever since. Over the past few weeks the stock has climbed back above the $600 mark, and today, it closed at an all-time high of $636.34 per share.
Speaking of apple, Steve jobs the co-founder of apple, well his house was robbed a couple of weeks ago and reports are saying that he was clueless that it was steve job's home. These were the things he robbed
three iPads, two iMacs, one Apple TV, Mercedes car keys, one $30,000 Tiffany & Co. platinum and aquamarine necklace and one $28,500 Tiffany & Co. diamond and aquamarine crochet necklace. and One more thing, he also stole his wallet which posseed steve job's yearly salary in it and which you might already know, Jobs only earned $1 a year and had the rest of his money in the shares of apple, Pixar and Disney.

Paranoid android

Paranoid android isn't a virus on the android platform nor is it a android that's scared of doing something, this is entirally the opposite of being scared. Paranoid android is entirally confident in what it does and what does it do exactly.

Well it's a custom rom based of the well known android platform CyanogenMod. I think many readers will be aware but i'll fill in for the people who don't. CyanogenMod is a piece of software that replaces the operating system that was previously on there. It's intended to change your perception on your smartphone, tablet or any device. it's very hard to put it into words really.

One good example i can give that will really put CyanogenMod on the map, The samsung galaxy s1 or otherwise known as the galaxy s i9000, Last year when ice cream sandwich arrived on the galaxy nexus and it showed off it's speed and snappyness and then everybody else wanted to get their hands on it, Well the galaxy i9000 being a very popular phone at the time and it still is today, lots of people wanted to get the new version of android and after a few months of waiting for the announcement, samsung denied the chance for i9000 owners to get the latest version, Even though the previous nexus had the same specifications as the i9000, samsung didn't allow it and their reason for doing that was because The phone couldn't possibly run android 4.0 and touchwiz which is samsung's skin that they put on their android powered devices to make it stand out from the crowd. Well this is where CyanogenMod comes in, since the galaxy s1 had a big fan base, they decided to create a custom rom built with the galaxy si9000 in mind. CyanogenMod is basically a skinned down version of the current android operating system and then built from the ground-up to work on specific devices such as the galaxy si9000 and the touchpad.

Paranoid android is a very very smart custom rom, you can tell the specific apps to run in tablet mode to use more of the screen real estate or you could run phone mode and have it looking the original way. Say if you're running the email client in phone mode and you've got to go back and forth between the email view screen and the email feed screen well if you switch over to tablet mode, you can scroll through the email feed and look at your emails at the same time. This saves tremoundous amounts of time when looking for that specific email. Sure you're not going to run this mod if you've only got a small screen to work with and by small screen i mean no smaller that 3.5 inches. The text will be so small and you'd hardly be able to see it. But a phone that could and probably will shine in every way, shape and form of this mod and it's a phone that you may look stupid while having a phonecall and it's the galaxy note with it's massive 5.3 inch screen. This is the mod that all the galaxy note users have been waiting for.

iPad mini

The whole of the tech world seem to be hooked up on the idea that apple will be bringing out an iPad mini at 7 inch. Which i don't blame, i think apple need to bring out a tablet at 7 inches to anniliiate the competiton like the kindle fire and the nexus 7. Apple haven't been known for bringing out products just to make people happy, they've brought out products that they think will change the world and look at their lines of products...all of them have changed the world in same way or another but i think with the death of steve jobs, tim cook have decided to do something to eliminate the competition and actually bringing out a 7 inch tablet. for the people that are on the go and want something they can easily have in their bags for a computer experience but they don't want to take a massive 10 inch display, at the moment they are going towards android devices because they are the only 7 inch modern tablets that are out today.

The tech world still seems to be on the idea that apple will be bringing out a 7 inch tablet with a resolution of 1024x768 and all i say is Apple will not bring out a tablet with this low resolution, first of all they wouldn't create a retina display friendly enviroment like the revolutionary Retina display on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s with 326 ppi (pixels per inch) and now with their new ipad 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264. They just wouldn't do it and repeatedly i've seen many many blogs saying apple are going to bring out a 1024x768 7 inch display (ppi)

1024 times by 768 = 786432 divided by 7 = 112347.4285714286, so lets call that 112 ppi. THAT'S TERRIBLE. This is the reason  why i have a rant at tech bloggers saying that the 7inch iPad will have 1024x768. 112 ppi IS EVEN BELOW the original iPhone screen heck and that was 163 pixels per inch.

Apple would not do it. They would at least make it retina display like about 1600x1000 so it would automatically make it a 16:10 and it would make it 228 ppi.

Thanks for reading my rants. Have a look at how many blogs say '7inch iPad mini at 1024x768' JUST LOOK

P.S If apple want to bring a 7 inch iPad they've got to hit the right price margin. If they hit between £200 to £250 price, they've got winner.

The Death Of Flash

Well we've now got sad news that flash is now being pulled from future android devices and mobiles all together. Apple fanboys will be gloating how they've got rid of flash on mobile devices and they'll be saying HTML5 has and will be always be faster than flash, Which i actually agree on, Flash is kind of laggy on devices and has never really run properly ever on little handheld devices and all i say is Good riddance.

It's been a full year since Adobe announced that Ice cream sandwich was going to be the last version of android they were going to develop. With last year's quote ' They want to concentrate on making the desktop and laptop a more stronger and robust area for flash. When steve jobs said 'You don't need a computer that runs flash, all you need is a Great webkit and you've got yourself a winner, and instead of flash, we are going to intergrate HTML5 into our web browser...safari' - I'm just paraphrasing here but i'm sure steve jobs said it somewhere in his life.

Flash doesn't even come pre-installed in Mac OSX anymore, so apple with all the money that they've got are pretty confident that they've picked a winner with HTML5 and now it's beginning to show. I've got to admit when i was playing YouTube videos on the mac, it became dramatically slow but the flash experience on a PC is much more elegant and fleunt, sure you've got your hiccups from time to time but overall Flash experience on a PC is much more reliable than Flash running on the mac

Some websites are saying that the Pulling off flash will happen August 15th, which is today and we've yet to see the change of what it will do to the technology industry as we know it. What i was thinking while i was writing this was why does there always seem to be a death around this time, Last year it was Webos and we all know what happened of the cause of that...TOUCHPAD FIRE SALE which i was lucky to snatch up for the price they were going for.

This isn't the death of adobe programs, you'll still be getting Programs like Photoshop elements and Adobe air so it's not a full exit from adobe, they are just cutting out the products that don't work on mobile devices.

Swype Keyboard

Something that i've seen repeatedly on tech websites and android related sites is the swype keyboard functionality, I've always wondered what can this do for the average text inputter/sms messager. Even when i was using the iPhone, i always saw tweaks related to the swype keyboard for iOS and i always thought it wasn't executed well on iDevices. Well today i was going through my settings on my android phone and i saw the swype feature, so i enabled it and...

Swype keyboard is basically a keyboard with a layer over the keyboard so you can rub your finger over the letters and it will input the letter. Say if you wanted to type in 'Android' Put your finger on A then rub your finger to the letter N then D then R etc and it would type in the word for you.

Personally i don't think this is nessessary at all. Sure it's a nice feature to have but for practical day to day use, It's not something that you have to live it, you can either disable or enable it depending on your personal preference.

in all honesty, it's a really good feature but the reason why everyone is going on about it, well i can't explain it. I'm much rather a tap typer since years of typing at a computer so i'm guessing we haven't evolved into swype typing yet.

Nexus Q

Something that i said in the Google IO conference blog is that i mentioned i wasn't really interested in the whole Nexus Q deal. First of all i had no idea what it was and that's what most of the tech world thought. Google announced it as a ball that would control your music and videos from the centre point in your house and it would cost £250 and what was it?

It's basically a hub that connects to your radio via a audio output or it would connect to your television using the video output... The content won't be saved on the nexus Q itself, it will be stored on your android devices but here's the catch which i thought was completley disgraceful and i'm sure some of the hackers are going to work their way round it. Everything that's played through the Nexus Q must be Google certified and they've got to played from Play Movies and Music has got to be played from Play Music Etc.

I thought it was going to be The music that you've bought and downloaded from the internet, you could instantly stream it to your stereo via the Nexus Q via your android device so you could have the music streaming all through your house like some apple products that are in the market today.

Personally i think Google brought out the device properly and executed the product better, i think they would have entered the market with more confidence with this device. Sure it's good that you're able to stream your content to the television but it has to be google certified which is really a kick in the balls.

Roundup of tech news 11th august

With the news of the HP unannounced tablet keep popping up, i'll just explain my thoughts on this. I think HP should give up entirally on the tablet market and concentrate on what thier good at... Making laptops. I dont think that HP should create a tablet with android as their base OS because then they'll just get mixed in with all the other android tablet companys. Well looking through the articles and it seems to be that HP might be the first third party company to get their hands on a windows 8 tablet. We are all aware of what microsoft's tablet can do. But to be honest I think they should give up.

Some of you might not be keeping up on the hack news but here's something interesting, cygenimod has brought out CM 10 on the first android phone...the t-mobile G1 and yes that's jellybean the latest android operating system. For all of you who are saying that your phone can't run ice cream sandwich well you're wrong, jellybean on the G1, it's quite slow and it's not very stable but it just shows with enough tinkering anything can be ported over.

Originally when I first started this blog, I was planning on starting a jailbreak review blog where i'd download the latest tweak, install it and review on what it is and give you the basic rundown of it and how practical it is on the day to day use but sadly with the death of both iPhones that dream has failed to come to reality.

IPhone 5 has been getting a lot of news lately, many many more prototypes, theorys on what iOS 6 could hold for the iPhone 5 and also recently there's been internal pictures. Nothing much based around the CPU or Ram size but all the basic components that have made the iPhone a reality. Just basically the sim card tray and the buttons and it really shows with all these images that we are looking at the entirally different design.

I might be a bit slow on this but I wanted to highlight it onto the roundup. Congratitinous to nasa on successfully landing the mars rover on mars. We are all expecting the panoramic picture of mars at the end of this week. It should look brilliant. The mars rover is sent there so sample the rocks and see if there was ever life or possible a hostile enviroment for our species. I'm really looking forward on wha this can do for mankind.

Something that I thought would never come to the app store and keep it a google exclusive is Google Now. Google are developing a Google Voice and Google now app for the app store which you know many people have replaced safari with chrome so could this be the same for siri users. Could google end up taking over the voice catagory as well. Google could end up taking over the world soon hahah.

Thanks for reading and that's the roundup of tech news of the week the 11th august

The Patent War between apple and samsung

The biggest news of the week and it's been the biggest story in the past few weeks and that's the patent war between apple and samsung. It's only in the past few days where i've realised that this patent war is a big deal. Either way the consumer will lose and I know i've been talking about how competition is good but it's not during a patent war.

Here's the stats, if apple lose, samsung will retrieve 2.4% of every iOS device sold and if samsung lose, samsung will have to pay 2.5 billion dollars. Either way one company will end up putting their prices up therefore costing more for the consumer and we'll lose features.

Apple are in my eyes are arrogant they've patented chamfered icons and rectangle tablet form factor amd it's their thing if everybody copies the design and they set out for an iPad and go home with a galaxy tab well they are absolutely stupid. I just think apple have got the right to patent things that make apple products apple but not stupid things like edges and shapes. They've also patented the slide to unlock and I think how else are you going to unlock your phone or device, I just think it's utterly stupid.

I'm not just siding with samsung. Samsung have made some stupid decisions, they've looked at apples software and changed it slightly so they've had it coming. Apple spend years and years testing and prototype different designs to get the most user satisifaction but samsung havent got the time to do all the innovating so they copy whats successful and make it their own.

Evidence of a larger iPhone display

Sorry i've not been blogging today, i've been out with the family yesterday and today to liverpool and all the other places within the merseyside area and looking at all the memorybilla that has happened. Obviously beatles and the departing of the titanic on it's voyage to america and the evolution of the world we live in and other stuff in the muesums.

I was actually gonna leave this blog for tomorrow roundup of tech news but i was thinking today, i have a lot to talk about it so i thought why not. When i was looking through the technology websites, i found one article that actually got me estactic and it might not be big but it's still worth noting.

The article was iOS 6 is adjustable to fit a larger screen. 9to5mac has tricked the iPhone simulator to display 640x1136 which is a normal iPhone 4's screens ratio but with added 0.7 inches or rounded the screen display size up from 3.5 inches to 4.0 inches. I absolutely went mental when i saw the article and my girlfriend who was sat next to me at the time, kept saying 'what? WHAT?' and i showed her and she said 'it's only a phone' and i explain how tech nerds get when something like this happens. everybody goes crazy for it and i was looking round websites and that exact article was at the top.

The picture will be displayed at the bottom. It compares iOS 6 stretched to a maybe iPhone 5 size to a iOS 5 stretched too. This is very very compelling proof that apple are in fact bringing out the next generation iPhone with a larger screen, Among other rumours like prototypes popping up but now we have proof that apple are prepping their devices to fit a larger display.

It's an absolute shame that i haven't got a workable iPhone. I've got one that i use as my daily iPod and none of the buttons work on it, the way i activate it is to plug an earphone jack into it so it activates the screen. I really need to get a new one but until that stops working, there's no point.

HTC one x menu and rambles

I'd like to point out a little thing on the HTC one X is that it doesn't include a menu button. You're probably thinking i've turned into an apple fanboy because of all my blogs relating to apple products just that's because a lot of news that are coming out latley are related to apple and mainly about the rumors revolving around the iPhone 5. I've recently switched over to android, not the latest and greatest android power smart phone, just a samsung galaxy si9000. The reason i've switched over to this phone is that it's been collecting dust in my room for about a year since the LCD screen and the digitizer were broke and fractured in place so just like the iphone if the screen has gone, it renders the phone pointless. It only cost 50 pound to fix and it's absolutely superb. It handles everything that I throw at it with great ease and doesn't have any hiccup at all. The only one thing wrong with it is the battery, since it's not been charged and it's been placed in a hot room but soon i'll be getting a galaxy note battery with 2500mah so i'll be getting a lot of hours with the phone.

Sorry I was just stating that I was not an apple fanboy. Since i'm using android and have android on the touchpad. I'm majorly peed off that already existing webos devices aren't getting the update to Openwebos because the kernel inside webos can not be handled on the existing webos products.

It will be only be a short blog, since it's not a very big point. Why have HTC decided to not include a menu button on their HTC one devices. My friends recently got the phone and he was showing me pictures on facebook and there was a virtual menu button and it takes up so much screen real estate and it's just like the ice cream sandwich bar on the galaxy nexus and tablets.

It's just one of the minor inconviences that HTC have decided to do. It's on the same levels as the scroll ball at the bottom of their 2010 HTC devices. I've got more to blog about but it's that small that I can stick it into the roundup of the week.

Google and Apple

Ever since the preview of iOS 6 that was shown off at WWD conference, we've all been talking about is apple finally getting google and eric schimdt back for what they did to apple. i am of cousrse talking about the new mapping system that has been implemented into stock iOS 6. I've covered this before so i'm going to talk about what apple have done that to kick google off the gargoyle.
we all know at this point that apple have been bringing out betas of their new operating system, this is to get all the bugs out of a already established operating system. well at the end of the 5 year contract between google and apple, well this contract has recently expired and with iOS 6 beta 4 coming out, apple have failed to implement the youtube application into stock iOS. Usually we've seen the youtube icon being a main part of the iPhone's and iDevices image.

I've been talking to my uncle about this and i predicted this was going to happen, i knew that there was a contract involved but i wasn't quite sure what it entailed. With apple buying a new mapping technology company and intragrating it into stock iOS and getting rid of the aging google maps. I predicted that in order for apple to gain what was stolen from google, they have to get rid of all the google services and this infact involved YouTube which is part of the google family.

Google say they are making a more refined version of the YouTube app for the app store. With Google actually putting app store in their quote, This makes me believe that you will be seeing a YouTube app in the app store instead of the stock iOS.

There's only one more thing left of google's thats in iOS... well there's two things, one thing is the google search functionality in safari but possibly google will not need to have the google search on safari since they've brought out chrome for iOS and already 30% of iOS users are using chrome as their default internet browser. There's one more, in the stock Mail App, you can easily select Gmail and type in your user name and password and you're away at checking your email. well my prediction apple will end up pulling every little thing of googles and just having google make their own apps for the app store.

Apple's new dock connector

We've all go to agree that the 30 pin connector on the bottom of our iOS devices is quite large compared to it's android and other smartphone counterparts using MicroUSB port. The 30 pin connector is quite large anyway for a charger port anyway, it takes up most of the devices width and it's not good for other iOS devices like the little iPod nano. Well the public aren't the only people that agree with this. Apple could be releasing a Dock connector to change the face of how we charge future iOS devices.

First i'd like to state that about a year ago there was rumours that apple would switch for a smaller pin connector and for many many months we stuck with the 19-pin connector to have more space within the iOS device and try to stuff more battery life and more nuts and bolts into the device. Well now i think we've got a confirmed new connector and it's not going to be the 19 pin connector that we originally thought it's going to be a small 9 pin connector. I'm not sure what the size comparison it is to the MicroUSB input. Here's a video of the phenonmon.

Apple doesn't usually slip up like this, when have apple ever slipped on something like this. usually everything that has apple brought out with is usually the time and place they want to announce it. sure you've got gizmodo has the iPhone 4 prototype but i'm not getting into that because it's so old and nobody cares about the iPhone 4 anymore.

A lot of you might be asking yourself it's only a charger port, well it is but with this new details we can predict what apple have got in stores of us with their new idevices.

Just look at the compatibilty section of the video, It shows that the dock connector with be compatible with the iPhone 6th generation, iPod touch 5th generation, iPod nano 7th generation, iPad 3rd generation and Oh... What's this? A smaller iPad... could this be the famous 7 inch iPad that we've been talking about for ages? could this be a direct competitor towards the Kindle fire and the nexus 7... I think so

Roundup of the weeks tech news 3rd of august

Looking through other tech blogs and something caught my eye, facebook are introducing a save for later function basically an instapaper copy but with status's. My question is what the hell is this, why are people going to use this function, if they see a status and they find it interesting, they will like or comment on it not save it for later, sure if they've a found a status that's contrevisial that's about them for example somebody slagging off work on facebook you can easily relate back to it but i find it just to print screen it or highlight copy and paste it into a text document.

Well while I was thinking of the save for later feature, facebook have become more news friendly. Facebook apps like the guardian are becoming a better way for them to get more market for their article and maybe you are surfing facebook during the night and you're not in a good enough to read it all, you can save it for the morning using the save for later functionailty. This is the only reason I can think of where the save for later feature would come in handy.

The new mac operating system has hit the shelves and they aren't just hitting the shelves they are coming straight back off too. Now that's just a metaphor, the mountain lion OS has sold over 3 million times in 4 days, i've not been able to get my hands on the new OS since the mac that i've got has no power supply with it so it renders it useless. Tomorrow hopefully i'll have a the power supply and i'll probably be, be doing a blog about the transittion from windows to mac. Notification, reminders and making iOS and mac more of a unified experience.

As you probably know by now, the app store has seen an amazing amount of applications over 650,000 apps on the app store but I found this quite interesting over 400,000 apps are zombie apps and this means that these apps are either been unrated by a person in the public or just hidden from site, making it very very hard for people like you and me to find those applications.

This could closely be the death of the blackberry platform, we all saw it with webos. I've all talked about how rim has decided to push back bb10 and how it's going to kill them and cause them to go into bankrupcty. The new york times a massive company that loads of other companies looks up to. The new york times has always been in the news as the company for world wide news. Well the reason i'm talking about the new york times is because they've decided to cut future plans to the blackberry platform and I was exactly saying, this must be the end of rim and their devices and that other company will follow suit.

Make a date for september 12, this could be the date for the iPhone 5 announcement with either phil schiller on stage or tim cook. There's not much that can be blogged about this that hasn't been blogged before, by me and other tech news websites. You can check mine out, it's conviently called iPhone 5.

I've purchased a galaxy s i9000, it was previously my sisters andd she gave to me with a broken screen and she was just wondering if i'd like to get it fixed and use it or sell it on. Today i've decided to get the phone replace the screen and start using it and i've got to say android 2.2 for the galaxy s is amazing. Obviously it's not stock android it's got samsung android skin 'touchwiz', I might be falling in love with previous 2.3. I've had a very high hatred towards 2.2 and below, i've always thought they aren't up to scraps and now I think it's time to retract that comment.

iOS 6 features all the new features that we are all looking forward to, see how robust they are in iPhone 5. Well one of the little neat features is that you will not require a password for downloading free apps and you will not require an account to download free apps too. So apple are basically pushing free apps right to the people that don't have credit cards.

Operation of pushing a new update to android powered smartphones

Remember the annoying adverts of the xperia S where the adam was invisioned and narrated by a 8 or 6 year old lad called ryan or adam. How the phone are powered by little tiny robots that save data like movies and then acquire a jetpack and transport that information to the corresponding desination. Well that phone that is displayed on the adverts is not I repeat NOT getting the update to the latest version of android. I'm sure the 2011 xperia S isn't the only phone that's missing out on the latest version of android OS 'jellybean'. Sony have confirmed that they won't be bringing out the latest version to 2011 handsets. You might be thinking i've become an apple fanboy but apple have really got right in their sense of concentrating on a select number of devices that they can create a optimized version of their OS of any hardware that they want. Since apple make the product, the OS and they configure all the nessesary network settings, they can push a faster update to the community compared to android.

Phone manufacturs rely on google to create an OS but since google have that many handsets that are running the android OS it's hard for phone manufacturs to keep up to date to what google are doing months before they bring out their new OS.

If say HTC wants the new version of android, first they've got to acquire the OS and then they've got to make it compatible for the device and adjusting the drivers like wifi and bluetooth and then HTC being HTC have got to create a skin that makes it their own look and feel and make a features that sets it's apart from the stock android look, then after all this software business, they've got to then get it verified by a network provider and then configure to work with that network and that's why it's takes so long for an update to come out for a phone even if it's a reltivly new phone.

Apple have already got their drivers installed in their OS so they don't need to optimize anything since they are default to the OS and the iPhone is alreadu license by at&t so there's virtually no verifying it with the network. Everything with apple happens behind the curtains and appears natural and that's why you don't see a lot of delayed update for iOS.

Thanks for reading.
Comment if you like and i'll actually respond.
There's going to be a long roundup of the tech news since i've been on holiday so i'll be covering two weeks worth of news.

The Facebook Phone

Here we go with another rumour about facebook phone. Well first i'll talk about what the facebook phone could do to the market.

If facebook do make their own phone they aren't going to pull out of the app business, facebook's recent intergration with iOS 6 and mountain lion means they have a forseeable future with apple. With android it's slightly different, since you can legally develop tweaks and launchers so facebook are relling on the community to develop a easy to post status service plus you've also got the facebook widget where you have a small little news feed right on your home screen for easily scanable information.

Pretty sure if facebook do bring out a phone it's going to be a skin on to of android just like what HTC and motorola do with their handsets. Facebook wouldn't develop an entire operating sysem to compete with android itself and iOS. I'll probably talk about this in another blog but i'll like to say it here, facebook have become that powerful in the social network field that they couldn't possibilty fail or be rivaled with any other social network site. Just look how google plus came into the network and the shortly of having thousands of people signing up, only a short number decided to go back on the next day. Facebook have got disposable money, here's a point if everybody left facebook then the website would be pointless, it's a community based website just like forums and twitter. With all the money facebook have got, they acquired instagram for a ginormas sum which instagram have now got 80 million members not sure how many they had before facebook bought them out but i'm thinking it would have increased over 300%.

Sorry i'm digressing but it happens when you let your mind ramble.

Talking about the facebook phone We want to not just have apps that people use, but also be as deeply integrated into these systems as possible. mark zuckerberg appeared on bloomberg the other day and crushing the dreams of the facebook phone to bits with this quote ' We want to support a development ecosystem where other apps can build on top of Facebook, so that’s why you’ll see us do things like support Apple in the iOS integration they wanted to do. There are lots of things that you can build in other operating systems as well that aren’t really like building out a whole phone, which I think wouldn’t really make much sense for us to do. '

Not sure why facebook would bring out a phone as they dominate the app market. I know loads of people that the first app that they downloaded was the facebook application and it's always on the front page or the dock, so facebook have definitly got the market for a facebook phone but with mark's quote, those dreams are crushed.

Bad news for existing webos device owners

we got some news that's both surprising and heartbreaking: Open webOS will not support existing webOS devices. According to today's blog post on the Open webOS Project Blog, the development team is "aiming for support on future hardware platforms where SoC's [system-on-chips] support Linux 3.3+ lernel and where open source replacements for proprietary components are integrated. Existing devices cannot be support because of those many proprietary components, including graphics, networking and lack of drivers for a modern kernel".

Feel like you just got punched in the gut? Yeah, us to. Despite being a modification and enhancement of the existing webOS, Open webOS will not be able to support any existing webOS devices, including the most-recently-released TouchPad and Pre3. Reasoning? Their processors don't support the Linux Standard Kernel nor are there complete open source replacements for hardware component drivers. If you were hoping to run Open webOS on your TouchPad, you're going to have to rely on the community to get it done, not HP.

We're not at all thrilled with this decision. HP already has access to the proprietary drivers for the TouchPad, Pre3, and a whole slew of webOS devices and could put together a release of Open webOS for those devices. But yet again, HP's made the decision to neglect off a small but loyal customer base in favor of pursuing bigger dreams. We understand that the resources available to the Open webOS team are limited - certainly much more limited than they were eighteen months ago when HP decided not to bother finishing a webOS 2.0 update for older Pre and Pixi devices and buried it under the news of the TouchPad, Veer, and Pre3 announcements - but this pattern of dumping on those who have stuck with the platform isn't the makings for continuing loyalty. People love webOS, but they can only put up with being slighted for so long.
As pointed out in the blog post, there is at least the webOS Community Edition release for us to tinker with for existing devices (i.e. the TouchPad), which included the older version of the LunaSysMgr as released in webOS 3.0.5. Today's announcement crystallizes the Community Edition's reason for existence: it was a pre-appeasment meant to be there, ready for this news, so HP can say, "But we already gave you that! Isn't that enough?"

There are two things to keep in mind moving forward. One: there's a large and growing number of Android devices out there that offer support for the Linux Standard Kernel 3.3, and given the number of devices supported by the open source CyanogenMod Android project there are plenty of drivers available for those components. Two: The webOS homebrew community cannot and will not be held back. They've already started working on the webOS Community Edition release of LunaSysMgr to see how well they can get it to work on the Pre3, and it'll only be a matter of time before they figure out how to get the goodness of Open webOS to work on our current webOS devices, HP be damned.

I haven't wrote this. The original article can be found on webosnation. I've got plently of stuff to talk about but I haven't got much time recently. I've got half finished written blogs in my phone about the news from the last week's tech news and I'll be posting them soon. Thanks for reading
