Here's the new additions of what we are expecting from iOS 6.
Here's the surprising part about iOS 6, it's coming to the 3GS, a device that is way past it's update cycle. Good one for apple to consider the people that are still using the 3GS. One of the things that i was reading a couple of months ago is when apple annouced that they were bringing down the price of the 3GS to $99 and this gave tremedous amount of interest in the 3GS and this is probably why apple decided to give the late comers of the apple family a little bit of a gift. After having the Iphone 3G for a couple of released, when apple decided not to support the iphone 3G past 4.2.1, it came apprant to me that apple weren't interested in the iphone 3G users and didn't care how the iphone 3G left.
Siri is being included on all devices that support iOS 6, there's major changes with siri in iOS6, you've got the power to tweet via siri, you can launch apps via siri, you can even update your facebook status via siri... And yes there is new facebook intergration with iOS 6, now you can easily update your facebook status where ever you are.
with just a little button on the nitification centre, you can now tweet, blog, and update your status via the notification centre. it's not just updating your facebook notification, facebook intergrates itself into your contacts list, so now you can easily find your facebook friends number, all the pictures will be updated to their current facebook profile picture next to their names.
it's about time apple have implemented after it being out for over 2 years, what i'm talking of is facetime over 3G, we've all been aware that we can face time unless we are in our homes or have a wifi hotstop near us. heck even a clever jailbreaker came out with this tweak, just a few weeks after WWDC 2010.
A new feature that will be hitting the macs and iOS 6 is the DoNotDisturb toggle, this allows you to turn off messages, phone calls and notification in all easily convient toggle. your messages and phonecalls will still be sent through but it won't light up or buzz. once you hit the sleep button, the messages will be revealed to you.
over the past few years, apple have been slowly drifting away from google sevices and now they've cut out one google service, google maps. they've redone the entire maps services. It's a turn by turn navigation service coming right into the stocks maps application. 2D 3D satilite and flyover are the different ways you can view the world. 3D is going to be amazing, if you've seen a few months ago, apple bought a 3D mapping company and we've now seen the work that these 3 companies have produced.
smart app banners, say if you're viewing a website such as IMDB, well if you're on the website, instead of it redirecting you to a website instructing you that they've got an app, it will be a easily notisable banner notification, notifying you that the website that you're visiting has an app.
what's been missing for years from the mails app? the abilty to send attachments on the iphone well now you can send videos, pictures and documents via the stock mail app.
There's also a passbook application that i don't really get, i'm not sure what it is. it seems to be a way of retrieving vouchers and a way to use your phone as an access point to use them vouchers.
There was rumors circulating that apple were going to revamp the stock iOS apps, well they have done and they've done it with great style.
Do Android bring out their latest OS on 3 year old devices? i think not...not even ported their latest OS (that has been released/completed for nearly as long as iOS5) to more than a handful of devices have they?
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised that iPad 1 doesn't get iOS6..unusual move.
Apple has been blocked by the service providers on FaceTime, so Jailbreakers could get around it by using methods the SP's blocked...when you are legit you cannot go against your business partners and solutions take time i guess!
Passbook looks to be something like i could have my Starbucks card details there and scan the phone (like i do with the S/Bucks app now) or keep flight info there and scan the phone at customs/passport control in theory but how long it takes shops and airports of the world to catch up to new tech is anyones guess! Some nice new touches to the phone and mail apps as well!
The reason that facetime didn't come over 3G was that the networks weren't tough enough to process all the demands for facetime users.
ReplyDeleteThe latest OS comes out for 3 year old devices, it's just not the NATIVE OS. it's a rom or a boot loader. Yeh now that i've seen other blogs and websites, i know understand the passbook app, when i first saw it, i only saw a summary of WWDC 2012 conference
