The trackball on HTC devices

I was looking the other day at some HTC devices and they all feature the pointless button and it's got to be more pointless than the silent mode button on the iphone and other features.

the silent mode button on the iphone became the most pointless feature to hit the iphone, the silent switch was easily knockable. I'd prefer if the iphone had no silent mode switch and change it to a software silent mode, just like on the JavaOs powered sony ericsson smartphones, you could be literally anywhere on the device and you'd hold down the # button and it would toggle silent mode for you. No awkward buttons on the side taking up real estate on the phone's body.

I have noticed a Degeneration of the track ball on HTC devices, Devices like the wildfire and the desire have featured the trackball button, what i've seen and played around the only 2 purposes are it's a camera shutter button and then the other version is going through your home screen swiping left to right just so that you can scan through the home screen wthout touching the touchscreen.

I do believe that you need a camera shutter button, i find it really awkward pressing the on screen shutter button because i either change the focus on the picture or a move the camera slightly losing the shot that i wanted.

I still need to do E3 news but if you go on youtube reguarly and you're subscribed to IGN's youtube, you'll find that there's too many videos to watch, way more than last year so i'll watch the major company's press conferences and i'll give an entire roundup for what they are and my opinion's on them.

  1. i find the silent button one of the most used buttons on my iPhone. never had much issue accidentally moving it on the 3G and very hard to accidentally move on the 4/4s. Since it vibrates at silent it was easy to know it had been moved.
i also find it good if someone rings and i want it to ring until it goes to voicemail (as opposed to sending it directly to v/m so they know you have call screened them) flick to silent and leave it. On my other phones with the keypad silent/noise button press it answered the phone/sent to voicemail before it went to silent.

  2. It was very hard to move on the Iphone 4/4s but one the previous generations of iphone, it's been very easily knockable.
if you knock any button, while you're getting a phone call, it stops the phone from virbrating and then if you press it again, it declines the phone call
